Counselling for Young People
Navigating childhood and adolescence can be difficult. Identity issues are common where pressing concerns such as ‘Who am I?’ may prevail.
Explorations around gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, class etc may feel necessary but confusing. Children and young people may feel troubled by changing peer and family relationships, perhaps being a carer, managing a disability or experiencing bullying, abuse or bereavement.
Distress may be manifested in expressions of self-harm (in its various forms), withdrawal or aggression towards others. This can be upsetting not only to the child but also to loved ones.
I provide a gentle space for children and young people to explore and express their thoughts and fears safely at a pace that works for them. This is often achieved through the use of creative tools such as sand-play and stories.
Having supported young people in a wide variety of issues over a twenty year period, I am confident in supporting young people effectively. I have also undertaken a vast amount of training including qualifying as a Youth and Community Development Worker (JNC) and completing a certificate in Working Therapeutically with Children and Young People. Additionally, I have an up-to-date DBS and am competent in children’s rights and safeguarding procedure.
If you are a young person, or a parent/carer of a young person who you feel would find counselling useful then please do get in touch and let’s talk about it together.
